Thailand really is treating us well. The next stop on our wonderful trip away required a short flight from mainland Bangkok to the island of Krabi – a short 2hr flight comfortably accommodated for by Air Asia.
Our next destination – the Layana Resort – was situated 50 minutes away by car from Krabi airport on the wonderful island of Koh Lanta.
Hidden amongst the cultured streets and outdoor markets, as we drove down the grand drive of the Layana Resort, we were immediately welcomed with huge smiles and beautiful views of the crashing waves and infinity pool from the hotel lobby.
Before our check-in, the tour of the resort quickly gave us the low-down on the grounds of Layana, with their sea view bar and restaurant, seaside cottages and garden suits encompassing not one, not two, but three beautiful swimming pools, and not forgetting the beautiful spa and gym – there was no doubt in our minds that we would be enjoying our stay.
The room & facilities:
For our stay here we were staying in two of their Garden Suites. A spacious and light room with a beautiful balcony, jumbo bed and sofa, waterfall shower and sunken bath. The sound of the local birds and crashing waves from the balcony making relaxing easy.
It wasn’t long before we were jumping in the pool and soaking up the rays. Making sure to make the most of the three different swimming areas and view from the infinity pool. The serenity of the resort and wonderful staff making the experience even more magical.
Next stop was the beachside bar to fill up our cocktail glasses and prepare for dinner in their sea view restaurant. Think fresh and sweet cocktails made using the local fruit, a menu to suit all and overly affordable prices. Whether you’re looking to try traditional thai food, or wanting to opt for something safer like a hearty pasta dish, their restaurant here is sure to blow you away.
What we ate:
During the low season, local amenities are less readily available than they would be during peak times. For this reason, the local areas were less accommodating than they perhaps would be, so we opted to dine at the resort for three nights on the trott. We can’t be blamed though as the food really was that good.
As we had the opportunity to try quite a wide variety of dishes, I think our opinion of what was on offer is pretty solid. For me, their thai green and red curry certainly receives a gold star. Though Heather reassures me that the pad thai was second to none.
TOO much to say about this. Basically, think of your favourite breakfast, times the selection by 10 and add an extra few points for good luck. The buffet here really catered for everyone. Freshly made juice and smoothies, cereals, pancakes and french toast, eggs made to order, fine cuts of meat and even traditional thai curries were on the menu. You can totally be forgiven for going overboard on the food at Layana, it really was that good. Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t mention the pastries either…or the almond chocolate cake – that’s a MUST.
Why should you go?:
Whether looking for a honeymoon destination or just a luxury holiday away, the Layana Resort truly couldn’t fit the bill more. For the more adventurous of visitors, the in house activity centre provids you with the possibility of booking yourself on a tour of the local national park – only half an hour by taxi –, rent bikes, take part in sunrise yoga and many many more.
Even if you’re just looking to relax and take in the scenery, you couldn’t find yourself anywhere more perfect.
For those looking to relax, the extensive spa menu will always be at your finger tips, and for those avid photographers looking for the perfect instal-pic I think you’ve found your dream destination here.
How stunning do our photos look?
