Zanna Van Dijk Interview

You’ve probably heard of her by now, Zanna Van Dijk is slowly becoming an internet sensation and positive role model. We love Zanna for her open personality, and willingness to sacrifice her appearances to just have a GOOD TIME. We’ve followed Zanna from her ‘blonde health’ days, and watching her blossom into the entrepreneur that she is today has been a pleasure. Without further ado, welcome Zanna…

Hello Zanna Van Dijk. You’re taking the internet by storm and we are so proud of you. Before we get started, please introduce yourself:

Well thanks! I’m Zanna, a 23 year old personal trainer, fitness blogger and soon to be author!

We know you’re originally a Yorkshire Lass, what’s your favourite memory about growing up in the countryside?

Ahh Yorkshire, I love that place. I fondly remember jumping in the back of the landrover and going on walks every weekend in the moors, taking picnics, swimming in icy cold streams, playing with the dogs and living off chocolate spread sandwiches (a vision of health!).

We’ve never been to Yorkshire, if we were to visit, where do you recommend we go?

Get right into the midst of the countryside. I love small villages like Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale and heading off on long hikes from there.

You’re now based in the city. It must have been a shock moving to the big smoke, what made you take the leap?

A combination of love for the city itself (it has such a buzz) and also for business reasons. In the fitness industry in the UK, London is the place to be!

There’s too many good foodie hangouts in the city that it can become overwhelming, we know you love a good brunch. Where’s your current favourite spot?

I am obsessed with Fields Cafe and Brickwood – both in Clapham. In Battersea I love Source and Bens Canteen and in Earlsfield I am a regular at Mels Kitchen.

HELLO ZVD CLOTHING COLLECTION…did you ever think that would happen?

Not in a million years! When I got asked I said yes without it really hitting me, then a few moths later when I was sketching designs, choosing fabrics and flying to Portugal to the factory I was just like… Oh shit. This is a real thing!!!

• • • •

What’s the longterm plan for your career as a fashion designer?

Well considering I never had this as a career plan, I am just going with the flow. I would love to produce a few more pieces and perhaps a whole second collection!

• • • •

It’s actually quite hard to keep up with all of your projects, we hear that a book is now also on the cards!! Fashion designer, PT, Motivational Speaker, Book Writer, Blogger, Girlgains Co Founder, Model…superwoman must ring a bell?!

Haha, thank you. I do have a lot on my plate right now and if I think about it too much it genuinely panics me. However, I just stay organised, structured and scheduled. I take one day at time and try to be as productive and professional as possible!

How do you keep yourself grounded?

I think having a boyfriend and friend who aren’t in the industry and don’t really get what I do helps to ground me a lot. They remind me that I am definitely not a big deal.

• • • •

Do you ever lack motivation to maintain your social media channels?

Nope, I love producing content for my social media. I just sometimes get overwhelmed by having so many channels to maintain!

• • • •

Before you moved to the city, you did some travelling around Asia, what was the best thing about that?

I think the best thing was enjoying pure relaxation. No stress, no work, no deadlines. Just going with the flow and taking in my surroundings. I had so much time to think and reflect and I think I really got to know myself on a new level when I backpacked.

• • • •

I know you have a tattoo, but do you have any piercings?

Yep! 9! 5 in one ear and 4 in the other. Oh and I have 3 tattoos 🙂

• • • •

Do you ever worry that with all of the ongoing projects that you’re involved in that you’ll burn out?

Yes, all the time. And that is when I take a day or evening off and disconnect. The problem is that my job is 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I have to consciously tell myself to not work, and thats something I struggle with.

Balance is something you’re always advocating for. Do you think social media lacks balanced role models?

I think it used to, but now there are a few although I would like there to be more. I think that myself and the girl gains girls provide positive balanced role models for others.

What makes you laugh the most?

Childish humour. Farts. Burps. Falling over. Ugly faces. Yes, I am 23…

• • • •

Ok, tomorrow we’re sending you on a holiday of a lifetime. Where would you go, who would you take, what would you eat and what activity would you do?

I would take my backpack and travel around south america with my other half for 3 months. We would explore and eat our way through the countries and disconnect from the western world!

Gosh, you’re a whirlwind and we love it. We know too well how much of a commitment self employment can be, but you’re already proving to the world your ability to juggle with both hands. We can’t wait to watch how the ZVD brand unfolds and wish you the greatest success in the future. For now, if you’d like to be involved with Zanna’s journey, follow her over on instagram.
