Our chat with @healthyjon

It’s very rare that you find a male blogger in the food blogging industry. I don’t know why, but instagram is just saturated with girls. Perhaps it’s in the pursuit of an unattainable summer bod; I just don’t know. Anyway, 2015 saw us being introduced to Jon through instagram. He has subsequently become one of our best friends and when he’s not at uni we’re always making plans for baking days and puppy play dates.

Time to introduce him to you wonderful lot!

Hi Jon, thanks for joining us on the blog today. Can you give us a brief paragraph about yourself:

My name is Jon, I am a health and fitness blogger, I am 22 and based in Henley. I spend my spare time playing Touch Rugby for England and making lots of healthy treats in the kitchen. I love peanut butter, working out, trying new things and relaxing in the sunshine.

How does it feel to be one of very few male food bloggers?

I actually quite like it, I spend a lot of time hanging out with or training with my rugby buddies where there is usually quite a boisterous and rowdy atmosphere, its nice to get away from it every once in a while.

We know that you’re finishing university this summer, what are your immediate plans in terms of job and career?

You probably have a better grasp on that than I do. Regardless of what I end up doing I told myself that I would have this summer off to enjoy myself before starting work. I plan to go inter-railing with my little sister, Salcombe with my family and I have just confirmed a trip to Thailand. There will be a few other bits and bobs thrown in there to keep myself amused such as Wilderness festival, Henley regatta and festival etc.

Like us, you’re a bit of a travelling bean, to date what’s been your favourite place to visit?

I don’t think I could ever really pin one down, who has a favourite place in the whole world? I like different places for different things. I loved Australia (Sydney) because everyone is so active and health conscious, the Caribbean for sailing because the waters are just crystal clear and Canada (Whistler) for skiing because the snow is better than anywhere else I have visited.

You’re always sharing on your Instagram different snack bars. What’s your favourite whilst on the go and why?

Oh god there are literally hundreds to choose from, probably the “Raw Health” bars, just because they are as healthy as you can get and really moist.

Your rugby training requires a lot of dedication, how do you find the motivation to train on days where you’d rather stay in bed?

My motivation to train I believe steams from the fact that my dream physique is unattainable to me. I love my body and I am very comfortable in it but the fact that I am not where I want to be motivates me hugely.

Sweet or savoury?

Sweet!

What’s the best thing that’s come your way as a result of blogging?

Friendship

Do your family and friends support your healthy lifestyle?

That depends how you define support. They are happy to accommodate my slightly different eating requirements but they wont be converted to a healthy lifestyle anytime soon. Trust me, I really have tried.

@idathespaniel is really excited to see you again soon. Do you think you’ll be getting a puppy in the near future?

I would love to get a puppy soon, a big black new foundland would do the trick, I am definitely a fan of big dogs.

You always like to look smart. What’s your favourite item of clothing/accessory for a big occasion?

A smart watch. Personally I feel naked without one, but there is something about putting on a serious watch that just makes you feel like you are ready for anything. My dad very generously gave me a Breitling Navitimer One for my 21st birthday, it has been my most treasured possession ever since.

We know you’re all about the rugby, but if you had to choose, would it be football or cricket?

Cricket, it is a more gentlemanly sport and to be perfectly honest I really cannot stand most footballers.

• • • •

Alcoholic beverage of choice?

A heavy red or a dry Martin Millers Martini with a twist.

• • • •

Breakfast date or dinner date?

Dinner date

• • • •

How would you spend your dream weekend?

Somewhere very hot like Bali, with plenty of friends. Pancakes in bed for breakfast, a workout in the morning, a swim in the afternoon, a rack of lamb and a lovely red wine for dinner then on to a swanky bar for a few cocktails, before heading back home and eating peanut butter out the jar with a spoon.
